Shampoo & Booze 33: Interview w/ Tricia, Fallbrook CA (and we talk Weddings)

In the past we have been hesitant to rent little trailers on people's land on Airbnb. But take a look at Tricia's super cute and comfy retro style camper named Trixie. Situated on 4 acres in southern California outside of San Diego, complete with working farm and animals you can hang out with. Tricia and her husband both have full time jobs- she's a professional wedding photographer, and was looking for some supplemental income and eventual more passive retirement career. So far so good, she's been booked with visitors from all over. We also delve into a conversation about potentially making our farmhouse into a small wedding venue, with the help of Tricia's wedding experience of course. Thanks for talking to us, Tricia!

  1. Wow! You guys could make hella money with hosting your land for weddings. Insane. This was a great interview, very informative. I'm looking forward to seeing how it unfolds if you guys go down the road of hosting for weddings.

    1. Yeah, we;re excited about the idea. It's a balance of making more money hosting weddings VS all the wear and tear. Having six people stay over is much different than 50-60 people having a party.

We're meeting with a wedding planner this week to discuss if it's even feasible.

  2. Very interesting. I never knew that airbnb had campers and yurts. Wish we could do this but our land is so steep. We've got 7 acres, a pond & chickens/cats/dog, but the steepness makes me think it's not doable. Wish it was flat!

    1. Have you seen the photos of our second rental. It's on a hill. We just hired a guy with a bulldozer to build us a driveway. You could do the same and make a flat space. Anything is possible with money.

  3. We'll look into it. Would definitely be pricey to build from scratch.

  4. Jay, you said that you have postcards made at a good price so your guests can take them to give to their friends. I looked under the We Recommend section but didn't see where you got them listed there. Are you having them made locally?

    1. hey cheryl
i first used VistaPrint.com and one of their templates (they have 1000s to choose from), then i designed my own based on that template later and went to bargainbasementprinting.com/. the colors didn't look as bright at VistaPrint, but for their price you can't beat it.
